The word Lego is Danish in origin that means to play well. Originally, the first LEGO logo had bold black and solid wordmark in capital letters. The font was serif with broad vertical lines and complementary transverse serifs.
In 1936, the owners decided to keep the name of the company in an Italian font with lines in the midpoint and two parallel highlighted horizontal lines on the sides. Also, Fabriken and Billund were written inside those lines.

Finally, after a decade, the company released the first version of the logo that was colorful. This event took place in 1946. The colors were black and dull orange that became brighter afterward. It was designed with lettering of two unique styles.
The orange was given to LEGO in a plain and neat sans-serif font. At the bottom of the emblem, Klodster was placed in black. We define it as more modern and professional. This transformation was a major milestone in the history of their logo.
Other than this, around the same time, they made one more logo for their wooden toys. On that logo, they designed a 3D wordmark over a brown and black base.
In 1950, with the launch of soft plastic toys, the logo was customized as well. At that time, it had a white circle with Lego written in the middle with red. The outlines were black with Billund Denmark written over the boundary.
A red wordmark was created with a geometric sans-serif typeface. The makers decided to have two color schemes. One had a white outline with red on multiple backgrounds and a red caption with a yellow rectangle.
During this year, the actual model of the present version was made. This logo featured white lettering in a black outline. Besides that, a red horizontal oval and a white straight line with two compact circles were present on its ends. With these changes, they were already moving on a path to individuality.
This visual identification featured a rectangle. Apart from the Lego caption, the term system was also added. Nevertheless, the rectangle was swapped by a square.
Later, the rectangle was separated into two squares having a red with the wordmark and a multicolored square. According to the creators, it projected the feelings of enjoyment, careless free time, and passion.
In this emblem, the multicolored stripes were erased. It had a wordmark in a yellow and dark black outline. The characters were incorporated in a typeface that was friendly, kind, and bold.
This is the logo that is still going strong after so many years. Today, the letters are nearer to one other with a fine inscription.
